Speedway 2000 - Game Review
By, The Big Kid

The game 'Speedway 2000' originated in Poland ,a country not traditionally noted for its software companies.

Techland produces the game in somewhat of a shift of direction for the firm which normally only develops software for their domestic Polish language market.

But speedway is probably the most popular form of motorsport in that part of the world and an area neglected by western software companies.

So what's in the game and how does it shape up to products from the mainstream?

There is a multi player function but no LAN support or internet play.

The graphics, while not being diabolical, are far below the quality of products by companies like Electronic Arts or Microprose.

The selection of bike is limited to 4 different machines with no indication of their performance ,and rider appearance has 3 options.

A total of 10 different tracks from around the world, including Australia gives you the venues.

One thing I found hard to discern was the difference between tracks, but I guess that is the nature of speedway and the fact racing is done on fixed dimension tracks.

Play time.  It's hard to assess the virtues or lack thereof with this game when compared to real world speedway, seeing as its a discipline in riding I have never explored, but there does seem to be a need for disciplined throttle control.  (Unlike The Bike Kid I have tried a speedway bike and throttle control is vitally important - Trev)

I played in all difficulty modes and found little room for error.  The number of times I was pounced on at the last corner were innumerable, and hot lap-times made no difference.

It seems the artificial intelligence compensates for hot laps and keeps the field together, so game play can have a degree of relative excitement.

I don't think I would recommend the game for purchase as it is a tad monotonous ,but it is the only game I've found dealing with speedway racing.

Unless you see it at a bargain basement price and want it for curiosity value, don't bother.
