British Superbike Championship - Brands Hatch Qualifying

In dry sunny conditions at Brands Hatch circuit, GSE Racing's Neil Hodgson qualified second on the grid for tomorrow's two British Superbike Championship rounds, making it the tenth time out of eleven sessions that the Burnley rider has qualified on the front row. Niall Mackenzie will start tomorrow's two 28-lap races from fifth on the grid.

Hodgson, currently second in the British Superbike Championship, had been fastest throughout both qualifying sessions at the Kent Circuit. In fact, the only two riders to have gone faster than him all weekend were his own team mate, Niall Mackenzie - who enjoyed a provisional pole placing towards the end of the first session - and Chris Walker, who left it until the last two minutes of timed qualifying to post his fastest lap of 46.272, which pipped Hodgson to pole by just one hundredth of a second. Hodgson's best time of 46.282 was set in the morning qualifying session and is also well inside the existing Indy Circuit lap record.

"The main thing is that I am on the front row," said Hodgson, who completed more qualifying laps than any other rider. "I'm extremely pleased with the way the INS Ducati is handling and I was able to bang in a series of fast laps early in the first session as a result. It's looking like it's going to
be even hotter tomorrow and as tyre choice is likely to come into play, a lot of the afternoon session was spent trying various tyre combinations. I'm now confident that we've got the best possible set-up for tomorrow's race, so I'm looking forward to putting this into practice on the Indy Circuit
."

Niall Mackenzie also spent the majority of the two qualifying sessions on the front row and was only squeezed onto row two when a sticking throttle hindered further progress in the second session. His best qualifying time was just two tenths of a second off pole, but the times at the Indy Circuit are
so tight that this means he will start tomorrow's two races from fifth on the grid:

"I really made a breakthrough with the INS Ducati last weekend at Mallory Park and have felt much more confident as a result in both yesterday's practice and today's qualifying sessions, " said Mackenzie. "That said, I did have a slight problem with my throttle in the second session, which was a bit unnerving, but it's better for it to happen in qualifying than in the race. We've completed loads of laps today and I've got a great setting as a result - the rest is up to me tomorrow!"

Marty Craggill is a doubtful starter for the two races following a crash in second qualifying which caused the session to be halted and left him with suspected broken bones in his feet.

SuperSport Qualifying

Kirk McCarthy will start tomorrow’s crucial and penultimate British Supersport championship race at Brands Hatch from the front row of the grid after setting the second fastest time in today’s qualifying sessions at the 1.22-mile Kent circuit.

McCarthy’s Castrol Honda team-mate, Steve Brogan, qualified fifth fastest after spending much of the two qualifying sessions on the provisional front row of the grid. The Liverpudlian was forced to use his spare CBR600 after his number one machine developed engine problems this afternoon.

Series leader, Jim Moodie, will start the 28-lap race from pole position while Dean Thomas and Honda-mounted Glen Richards complete the front row of the grid. McCarthy knows that only a win tomorrow will keep his championship chances alive.

"We’re still looking for an ideal set-up really," said the 30-year-old Australian afterwards. "We’re close to it but not close enough. The Castrol Honda is faster than at the first round here in March but I know what I have to do tomorrow. With 30 points between me and Jim there’s only one result that will do."

Final qualifying:
1 Jim Moodie (Yamaha) 48.512s,
2 Kirk McCarthy (Castrol Honda) 48.596,
3 Dean Thomas (Ducati) 48.705,
4 Glen Richards (Honda) 48.728,
5 Steve Brogan (Castrol Honda) 48.773,
6 Danny Beaumont (Yamaha) 48.935,
7 Luke Quigley (Yamaha) 48.990,
8 Howard Whitby (Honda) 49.059,
9 Rob Frost (Yamaha) 49.069,
