British Superbike Championship - Brands Hatch SuperStock

Glen Richards won today’s eleventh round British Superstock championship race at Brands Hatch with series leader, David Jefferies, finishing second and Matt Llewellyn third.  Journalist, Rob Frost, was excluded from the last podium place after admitting carrying out illegal modifications to his engine.

Richards dominated the 26-lap race after qualifying his Honda CBR900RR FireBlade in pole position yesterday and eventually crossed the line 1.035 seconds ahead of Jefferies. The Sanyo First National rider now lies eighteen points behind Jefferies in the championship table as the riders head for the final round at Donington Park in two weeks time.

Richards’ Sanyo First National team-mate, Chris Vermeulen, was forced to retire from the race with mechanical problems on lap 10 of the 26-lap encounter around the 1.22-mile Indy circuit at Brands.

"It was getting really dark out there," said Richards afterwards, "I thought we’d need some lights on the bikes. I knew Jefferies was really putting me under pressure so I just kept pushing. The championship’s still alive so we’ll take the FireBlade to Donington and try to repeat today’s win."
