British Superbike Championship - Round 9 Qualifying - Cadwell
|
GSE Racing made it six poles in a row when Neil Hodgson qualified fastest today at Cadwell Park to add to Niall Mackenzie's pole at Knockhill, the three consecutive British Superbike pole positions Hodgson claimed at Snetterton, Silverstone and Oulton Park circuits, and his recent World Superbike Superpole triumph at Brands Hatch. The current British Superbike Championship leader was fastest in the morning qualifying session and then went even quicker in the afternoon - posting a fastest lap of 1:25.168 with just four minutes remaining - which is the fastest ever two-wheeled lap of the Lincolnshire circuit and almost 1˝ seconds inside last year's lap record: "Even though I was quickest this morning, I knew there was still more to come," said Hodgson, "and I felt completely comfortable throughout the second session on the INS Ducati. I rate Cadwell Park as one of my favourite circuits and the changes to Barn Corner have improved things for me. I haven't won here since my 125cc days, so a victory tomorrow would mean a lot to me personally as well as the team. There's also a new lap record to be established, so I'll be doing my very best to claim that too!" Despite nursing an injury to his right side sustained during Friday's
practice, Hodgson's team mate, Niall Mackenzie, qualified seventh on the grid
for tomorrow's two 17-lap races. The former British Superbike Champion posted
a fastest lap of 1:27.072, an improvement of over half-a-second from the morning session and quick enough to put him on the second row:
"People think that I don't like Cadwell Park, but in fact, nothing could be
further from the truth," said Mackenzie, "it's just that I haven't always had
the best of luck here! I am a little sore from the tumble yesterday, but I
still managed to improve my lap time and grid position during this Harris Honda ace, Sean Emmett, will start tomorrow’s two ninth round British Superbike championship races from the second row of the grid after setting the eighth fastest time in today’s two qualifying sessions.
"I’m really happy with the bike," said Surrey-based Emmett after his best qualifying performance of the season so far.
"I was lapping comfortably in the low 1m27s on a race tyre so as long as I can get a reasonable start I’ll be confident of a good result.
"The new VTR is just about as good as we’ve ever had it," continued the 30-year-old.
"It brakes and steers beautifully and I’m lapping as fast as I was on my factory Ducati last
year." Current Standings SuperBike Championship points: Hodgson 284, Walker 283, Reynolds 272, Haydon 231, Hislop 168, Mackenzie 127, Crawford 111, Plater 103.
