British SuperSport Championship - Round 9 - Cadwell

Kirk McCarthy eased his Castrol Honda CBR600 to a dominant win at Cadwell Park this afternoon in front of a record crowd, taking victory over series rival, Jim Moodie, by almost nine seconds. Howard Whitby, on another Honda, was third with McCarthy’s Castrol Honda team-mate, Steve Brogan, fifth.

As rain began to fall heavily just before the ninth round British Supersport encounter, organisers declared a wet race. McCarthy grabbed the holeshot and held off early challenges from Gary Mason and Moodie before easing away as the 2.173-mile circuit dried in the latter stages of the 17-lapper.

"It certainly wasn’t easy," said McCarthy after his fourth win of the season. "I saw that Jim was behind me and thought I’d just keep my head down. It’s good to get some of the points back that I missed out on at Knockhill."

Brogan, too, was delighted with a fifth place to add to his third at Knockhill, the 20-year-old Liverpudlian’s debut outing on the Castrol Honda machine while he deputises for the injured John McGuinness.

"I got baulked a bit at the start," explained Brogan, "which allowed Kirk and the others to get away. The rear wheel span up a couple of times as I battled with Gary Mason and it ended up a bit of a lonely race. But I’ve had two good results on the Honda now so I’m pleased with that."
