British Superbike Championship - Final - Donington - SuperSport

Jim Moodie clinched the 2000 British Supersport championship at Donington Park this afternoon, taking victory in a two-part race over Honda’s Chris Vermeulen and Rob Frost.

Castol Honda’s Kirk McCarthy, Moodie’s only challenger going into today’s final round, retired with mechanical problems after 16 of the 22 laps.

The Australian was leading the race when it was stopped on lap 12 but his championship hopes evaporated at the end of the second lap following the restart over 11 laps.

"I had a sixteen point deficit going into today’s race," said McCarthy, "and it was always going to be difficult. Congratulations to Jim who has ridden incredibly well all season."

"I’ve had a great year," continued the 30-year-old, "and the Castrol Honda team have worked really hard to develop a fantastic package with the Honda and Dunlop tyres. I’d like to thank each one of them and hope that we can go one better next year."
