PLATER AND CRAGGILL HEAD TO KNOCKHILL
| Double Australian Champion
Marty Craggill is to partner Steve Plater in the Team Kawasaki squad for
the remaining rounds of the British Superbike Championship.
Craggill, 31, who will be a full time member of the team for the remainder of the season, first raced for Team Kawasaki at Snetterton in May, deputising for compatriot Peter Goddard. The decision to maintain team continuity by fielding the Craggill/ Plater combination for the last four rounds of the British Championship was arrived at jointly by Peter and Team Kawasaki. Earlier this year the team loaned Goddard to the German-based Kawasaki Racing Team as a temporary replacement for their injured World Superbike rider Gregorio Lavilla under an arrangement that encourages cooperation between branches of the worldwide Kawasaki family. Steve Plater returns to British Superbike action at Knockhill in Fife this weekend fully fit and raring to race following a qualifying crash which ruled him out of the last round at Oulton Park. "Although I got away with nothing broken besides a couple of teeth, the Oulton crash left me very badly bruised and battered and it has been a long, hard slog back to full fitness," said Plater, who is currently ninth in the title chase and looking for his first podium place. "My immediate target is to get myself back on race pace and into a situation where I can be challenging the race leaders," said the ever-smiling Steve, from Woodall Spa, Lincolnshire, whose grin has been enhanced since his Oulton incident with the aid of some urgent cosmetic dentistry. "I had a quick shakedown test at Mallory Park before leaving for Scotland and everything felt fine - I like the Knockhill circuit, finished on the podium there in the supersports last year, and I'll be looking to pull back a few points." Craggill, from Melbourne, is happy to have got the go-ahead for the rest of the season. "Now things are on a firm footing I feel I will be able to produce some good results for Team Kawasaki. I have been getting used to the bike and the team and I'll be doing my best to run up front," he said. Team manager Simon Buckmaster said: "Both Steve and Marty are capable of turning in top five results in Knockhill and we will be focusing our efforts on that goal." |
