British SuperSport Championship - Mallory Park

Kirk McCarthy finished fourth in today’s tenth round British Supersport championship race at Mallory Park, one place in front of Castrol Honda team-mate, Steve Brogan. Rob Frost won the race with series leader, Jim Moodie, finishing second and Honda-mounted Howard Whitby third.
McCarthy grabbed the holeshot and led for the opening four laps of the 28-lapper but was passed by championship rival, Moodie, going into Mallory’s Esses. "I think we just made the wrong tyre choice," said McCarthy afterwards. "The bike was sliding a bit from the fourth or fifth lap. I got by Whitby again on the last lap but he let his brakes off going into the hairpin and we both ran wide." McCarthy now stands 30 points behind Moodie with two rounds remaining in the series. "I think the Fat Lady’s probably on the bus and on her way here now," he said of his championship chances. "But there’s still two more races and anything can happen." Today’s race was Brogan’s third on the Castrol Honda CBR600 while he deputises for the injured John McGuinness and his third top five finish. The 20-year-old Liverpudlian said: "I messed up the start and had to grab the clutch again. After I’d battled with Glen Richards for a few laps, Kirk and the leaders had gone so I had to settle for a sixth. Dean Thomas crashed out on the last but one lap though so I moved up a place."
