British SuperSport Championship 2000 - Snetterton

Castrol Honda’s Kirk McCarthy (AUS) finished second behind Jim Moodie in today’s fifth round British Supersport encounter at Snetterton (Norfolk) with Rob Frost taking third on another Honda CBR600.

Starting the race from third place on the grid, McCarthy took the holeshot into the first corner, but the race was stopped at the beginning of lap two when Stuart Wickens crashed at the Russell chicane, injuring his shoulder and leaving debris on the track.

McCarthy was unable to prevent Moodie from getting away in the full, 22-lap restart and held second place for the first eleven laps before being passed by the Ducati of fellow Australian Dean Thomas. Thomas, however, crashed out unhurt at Riches corner five laps later.

"I really enjoyed the ride actually," said McCarthy, who retains second place in the series. "The bike wasn’t getting off the corners as well as Jim’s and once he’d broken the draft I couldn’t pull him back. "I managed to get some good slides, though, and the bike started to feel very good," continued the 30-year-old from Mickleham in Victoria. "I was really starting to enjoy myself until a wasp got into my leathers began to sting me! I was beating my chest as I went down the straights and I think my mechanics were wondering what I was trying to signal but I managed to forget about it after a couple of laps."
