British SuperStock Championship - Round 4 - Oulton

Australia's Chris Vermeulen was third on his CBR900RR FireBlade in a thrilling Superstock battle around the picturesque 2.7-mile Cheshire circuit, which saw the lead change hands no less than twelve times during the 16-lap race.

The young Australian rider was blocked by back markers on the final lap, however, and crossed the line just three tenths of a second behind race winner, David Jefferies, with Steve Plater second. Richards was always part of the leading group and crossed the line in fifth place, 24 seconds ahead of the next finisher, Rob Frost.

"That was unreal," said Vermeulen, 17, "Good fun! We got messed up by those back markers on the last lap, otherwise I would have definitely gone for the lead. I saw Plater nearly take out David Jefferies at the last corner and I hoped they might run wide for me to sneak in. But, hey, it was a fantastic race."
