Goddard second at Mallory Park
| Steve Plater just managed to hold off Peter
Goddard to get the win at Mallory on Sunday. Vimto Honda rider, McGuinness, fresh from his victory at Daytona, battled it out in the early stages with the Kawasaki British Superbike Team of Steve Plater and Peter Goddard whilst fending off the Yamahas of Michael Rutter and Paul Young before clinching his second successive rostrum finish of the season. McGuinness rides a Demon Internet 500cc NSR 500 Honda Grand Prix bike, and showed what it is capable of in front of 10,000 sun drenched fans at the Leicestershire speedbowl. "I was carrying a lot of corner speed through Gerards and I came upon a backmarker just where I didnt want to so I had to lay it in harder. I felt the front tuck but kept it up on the kneeslider. I knew I had to make a good start and I did but overall, Im pleased with that result" said the 25 year old from Morecambe, Lancs. The race was won by Plater on his first race aboard a superbike with Australian Goddard following the Lincolnshire rider home some two seconds down. McGuinness came in third another second and a half back with Rutter, Young and Kawasakis Gordon Blackley rounding out the top six. The first round of the British Championship is next weekend at Brands Hatch. James Toseland sadly a non-starter at Mallory - is scheduled to debut the Honda VTR SP1 Superbike there, if it is ready.
