Grand Prix 2000 - Round 10 - Germany - 125 Race
| Sanna got the jump at the start before a
1st corner incident which made it more like a game of dominoes rather than a motorcycle
race, at least 7 went down that I could make out. Many of them made it back on their
bikes as it was all pretty slow speed stuff but carnage nonetheless. Sanna, Ui, Locatelli as they commence lap 2 of 29. Ui hit the front at the next corner and led them in to lap 3 - race order - Ui, Sanna, Locatelli, Nieto Jr, Muller, Scalvini, Jenkner. Some of the normal front runners had hit the dirt in that first corner carnage and are either retired or towards the rear of the field. Alzamora, one of the early crashers, in to the pits to retire, along with Poggiali a little later in the lap. The leading trio have over 7 seconds on the 4th placed Nieto Jr. Ui still with the upperhand as they commence lap 9 . Locatelli through on Sanna to take 2nd and try to close the gap on Ui. Locatelli had closed right up on the back of Ui by lap 12 with Sanna a couple of seconds back in 3rd. Scalvini now leads the battle for 4th place which is around 12 seconds behind the leading trio of Ui, Locatelli & Sanna with half the race gone. Giansanti into 4th on lap 16 in a huge 6-way battle for that 4th place which is now happening some 14 seconds behind the leaders. Ui is having a better run through the backmarkers than Locatelli and had a 2.3 second lead on lap 17. Leon Haslam in to the kitty litter but managed to rejoin the track. Vincent hit the front of that battle for 4th place with 8 laps to go. Ui stretched his lead over the 2nd placed Locatelli out to 4 seconds and is looking untouchable with now 7 laps to run, Sanna also looks as though he has a safe 3rd place in the bag. Everything pretty much stayed the same until race end with Ui taking the win from Locatelli and Sanna who had nearly fell back in to the clutches of a fast finishing Vincent. |
