AOKI - 2nd - 1'41.111 "We've been struggling with set up, to get the feeling I like from the front forks. We made some changes for the afternoon that made the feeling better, but they were wrong for the lap time. So in the final minutes we went back to the previous setting and put in the qualifying tyres and went for some fast laps. The soft tyres are enjoyable and show you what is possible; but on the other hand they are not the same as race settings, so you don't learn a lot. I have mixed feelings about them. Anyway, we have settled on what we need for the race now, so I hope for a good start and a good finish too." |

ROBERTS - 4th - 1'41.150 "Everything's going okay - our bike is working well here, and we've done a good job on race tyres and got the chassis to where we need it. It's great to see Nobu up front with us, and I hope he can get a good race and take some points away from the other guys to help with the championship. I used the qualifying tyres, but I didn't really get the most out of them. I think it's a sort of a shame that we have these soft tyres. They mean you don't really know where everyone is at. You just go round like a gyro until something happens, and it can put the top guys in a bad position, where they have to start from the second or third row." |
| TADY OKADA 6th 1'41.396 "For the first time this year, it feels really good on the bike. The team has been working hard to give me a bike I can feel comfortable on and I'd like to thank them for that. I was up there on pole for a while, but on my last run with qualifying tyres, I didn't do so well. I don't really like to use qualifiers because they move around so much and upset the balance of the bike. I think we have a good set-up for the race, though. I think we can be consistent and I'm definitely hoping for a podium finish. By that, I mean finishing on top of the podium of course! Normally I don't like slow corners so it's a bit of a surprise to be doing well here. This afternoon was less windy but in any case, the wind doesn't bother me when the bike is good. It's only a problem when I'm not comfortable on the bike". |
| ALEX CRIVILLÉ 9th 1'41.907 "Today things haven't gone well. After getting sixth position yesterday, I expected better but I was unable to. I'm having problems in one specific section of the track, the fourth intermediate, which runs from after the chicane back to the start/finish straight. I'm losing too much time there on every single lap. I'm finding it hard to be really confident opening the gas in that section and it's a problem. We need to work on that tomorrow so I can improve my feeling and find some more grip from the rear. We'll keep working in the warm-up tomorrow and try some different settings. Hopefully that will improve the bike". |
| SETE GIBERNAU 11th 1'41.957 "I'm not satisfied with the way qualifying went this afternoon. Things worked out well for us this morning and I finished the session in second place. But the temperature went up this afternoon and I have to admit that we didn't really react fast enough to that. We should have started changing the bike's set-up earlier. Still, I was able to do some consistent lap times and that bodes well for the race. I think the times we did today will turn out to be the race times. We worked more on setting the bike up for the race than on getting a good place in qualifying this afternoon. But we've improved every day so far and that makes me confident for tomorrow". |
| MARK
WILLIS - 16th - "The lap time is not so bad, but I'm still a little disappointed. After
improving a lot this morning, I hoped we could get do more of the same in the afternoon, but instead we
made a change to the gearing that was wrong, and so although I did go quicker again, I'd
expected more. The changes overnight were to the chassis and to the motor. It took a
few laps to get used to them, but they've made the bike better - less nervous and more
consistent. We still need to work on the throttle response for tomorrow, to make it smoother between
quarter and half throttle. Tyre-wise, I found one that I like that we think will do race
distance. We've done quite a few laps today, and learned a bit. Bring on the race." |
