Grand Prix 2000 - Round 14 - Rio - 125 Race

Ui led them away from the line from Locatelli and Sanna.  Lap 2 saw both Giansanti and Azuma get in front of Sanna.  Giansanti moved up to 2nd on lap 3.

Poggiali fell on lap 6 and the battle for the lead was as hot as it gets.  Ui Giansanti, Locatelli, Azuma.

Locatelli's machine failed on lap 7.

Ui has been challenged at every corner by Giansanti over the past 6 laps but has somehow managed to hold him out.

10 laps to go - Ui, Giansanti, Azuma, Sanna.  The leading quartet is covered by less than half a second!  The battle is so tight but no changes in the order for lap after lap.

2 laps later and Giansanti finally takes the lead.  Sanna past Azuma for 3rd for a few corners but Azuma takes that 3rd position right back.

Azuma past Ui for 2nd!  Ui was the pacesetter for so much of the race but has gone from 1st to 3rd in 2 laps.

A lap later Ui was pushed back to 4th, obviously the early pace has destroyed his tyres.  Sanna past Azuma for 2nd.

2 laps to go - Giansanti, Azuma, Sanna, Ui.  Derbi mounted Ui has lost touch with the leading pack now, much to the relief of title leader Locatelli who had a mechanical failure early in the race.

Azuma ran wide and allowed Sanna through to 2nd but not for long as Azuma gets him back.  Sanna into the lead after making an aggressive move on Azuma.  Giansanti in the dirt after losing the rear which spat him into a highside.  Sanna takes the win in a fantastic race.
