Grand Prix 2000 - Round 14 - Rio - 250 Race

Jacque got a great start and led them around the first lap with Ukawa behind.

Jacque had some problems in lap 2 which started a rapid move to the back of the field.  His team-mate and championship leader Nakano also must have had some problems earlier in the race and on lap 3 sits 7th after making a charge back through the field.

14 laps to go and Katoh leads Ukawa and Melandri.  The leading trio very close together.  Nakano continuing his charge through the field and is now up to 5th and battling Battaini for 4th.

Jacque battled through the field for lap after lap following his early problems and worked his way up to 12th but unfortunately fell with 4 laps to run after losing the front.

3 laps left and the race order is Katoh, Melandri and Ukawa.  The leading trio have been running nose-to-tail for nearly the whole race.  Nakano 4th, West in 6th.

Katoh ran very wide with 2 laps to run which pushed him back to 3rd and gave Melandri the lead and a chance at his first 250 GP win.

A lap to go and Katoh from 3rd to 1st in a great out-braking move!  Ukawa also through on Melandri.  Ukawa gets underneath Katoh in an absolutely awesome move but Katoh gets it back on the next corner, the leading trio are fighting as hard as I have ever seen.  Katoh, Ukawa, Melandri is the order as they take the chequered flag.  A fantastic final lap.
