At the end of lap 1 the race order is Roberts, Okada, Criville, Gibernau, Checa, Abe, Okada, Rossi, Biaggi, Capirossi.

Roberts has 3 seconds over Okada.  McCoy 12th.  Rossi through on Gibernau and Checa.

Rossi tries to take Criville but fails on the first attempt but immediately attacks again and gets the position.

Biaggi through on Criville for 4th.  Rossi takes Okada for 2nd and sets out after Roberts.

Lap 6 - Roberts has over 6 seconds on Rossi then a gap to Biaggi, Okada, Criville, Checa, Gibernau and Aoki.

Lap 12 - Roberts has a 8.5 second lead over Rossi who in turn is being chased by Biaggi.  

The battle between Rossi and Max Continues with neither giving an inch.

Roberts stretches his lead to 10 seconds with Rossi unable to shake Max.  The Italian duo have 8 seconds on Checa the.  The fight for 6th continues between Barros and Abe.

Max passes Rossi with 6 laps to go. 

Roberts lapping 1.52 still the fastest on the track. 

Garry McCoy pulls in the pits with 5 laps to go.

Rossi makes several attempts to go under Max but can't make a move stick.

Final lap - Rossi goes under Max and slides through the tunnel.  Rossi gets bucked out of the saddle but regains his composure and Max takes the opportunity to try and pass Rossi around the outside but can't make it through.

Rossi turns and looks at Max as he crosses the line in front of him.

Roberts wins comfortably.
