Repsol Honda - Testing at Phillip Island

Team Repsol YPF Honda riders had a two-day test at Phillip Island on Tuesday and Wednesday after the Australian Grand Prix. Both Alex Crivillé and new team-mate Japanese Tohru Ukawa started pre-season testing riding the 2001 Honda bike.

On day one, Alex Crivillé felt very comfortable on his new bike and was very satisfied with the job done. He set a best lap time of 1'32.8, almost one second faster than his 1'33.6 registered during official practice at the Australian grand prix and very close to Aprilia rider and pole-setter Jeremy McWilliams (1'32.5). At the end of the day, Alex was optimistic about the coming season: "I'm very happy with this bike. It feels really good and I know we're definitely on the right path! We all agree on that point. We've now got a lot of work to do in the next few months. Of course, being a new bike there are always many more different things to test. I'm really excited and looking forward to some more".

It was Tohru Ukawa's first contact with a 500 NSR Honda. The Japanese rider focused on gaining confidence on a 500cc bike, after a 250cc racing career this season.

On Wednesday, both riders continued working on their new Hondas although bad weather conditions didn't let them set faster lap times. "It's a pity it rained on the last day because I only hoped I could have continued to work on the bike with better weather conditions", Crivillé said.

After this, Team Repsol YPF Honda riders will be testing at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia from the 17th to the 19th of November and from there to Jerez in Spain (27-29th of November).
