JEFFERIES TAKES PRODUCTION TT WIN
| David Jefferies took his fifth TT win with
victory in Friday's Production race on the Isle of Man after the rain-hit event was
reduced to just two laps. Jefferies added to Wednesday's Junior TT victory on the infamous Mountain circuit with a dominant display around the 37.73-mile course. The Yorkshireman led all the way, opening up a 26-second lead at the end of the first lap leaving the result in little doubt. He eventually crossed the finish line 53 seconds ahead of local rider Richard Quayle. Runner up Quayle, from Douglas on the Isle of Man, was contesting his very first TT. The Vimto Honda rider said: 'I'm over the moon to get on the rostrum in my first TT, I can't believe it. I had a lot of slides out there but nothing too worrying.' Quayle continued: 'I knew how wet it was and had to ride accordingly. I just kept it smooth and only thought about making it to the finish.' Former TT winner Michael Rutter took third place despite his last lap effort to catch Quayle. He crossed the line just four seconds down on the Manxman. The race was scheduled for three laps and to start at 10.45am but it finally got under way at 4.30pm in overcast conditions on the tiny island in the middle of the Irish sea. Note: Friday's Senior race - scheduled for six laps - was
postponed due to the wet conditions and will now start at 10.45am on Saturday morning. |
