ISLE OF MAN - Tuesday practice wrap up - Jeffries still the main man
By, Ric McDowell

V & M Yamaha’s David Jeffries continues to dominate practice week on the Isle Of Man, clearly dominating the Formula 1, Production and Junior practice sessions last night (Tuesday).

Jeffries’ fastest lap in the Formula 1 session was a 124.12mph (18min 14.3sec) blinder - especially considering that no other competitor lapped at over 121mph.

Honda Britain Fireblade punter, Jim Moodie, managed a best lap of 120.38mph (18min 48.3 sec’) and must be wondering just how to peg back Jeffries.

Ian Lougher had another good evening on the Cowes 1000cc Yamaha, clocking a 120.17mph (18min 50.3sec), while Joey Dunlop on another of the Honda Britain Fireblades has improved with a 120.10mph (18min 50.3sec).

So are the Honda Britain men going to take the fight up to Jeffries ?

Jeffries was also the only 600cc Junior competitor to top 120mph in last evening’s Junior practice, bagging a lap of 120.15mph (18min 50.5sec) on the V & M R6 Yamaha.

Dowd Honda’s Adrian Archibald done well again, clocking a 118.15mph (19min 09.6sec), while Shaun Harris on an R6 managed a lap of 117.83mph (19min 12.7sec).

Meanwhile, Jeffries fastest lap in last night’s Production qualifying was a 119.56 (18min 56.1sec).

Adrian Archibald on a Harris Honda Fireblade managed a 118.86mph (19min 02.8sec) lap, with Richard Quayle on a Bullock Vimto Fireblade clocking a best speed of 118.02mph (19min 10.9sec).

And of course, not forgetting our Aussie competitor, Adam Donovan, who didn’t improve on his 109mph lap from Monday evening, circulating last night on his Aprillia RSV Mille with a best lap of 108.48mph (20min 52.1sec).

And so to the smaller capacity classes, where John McGuinness dominated the Lightweight practice session on his Demon Vimto TSR 250cc Honda.

McGuinness pulled a couple of 116mph laps out of the bag - his best a 116.81mph (19min 22.8sec).

Bruce Anstey (Yamaha) and Richard Quayle (Honda) lapped in the 114mph bracket.

Robert Dunlop again topped out the Ultra Lightweight qualifying, lapping his Crossan 125cc Honda at a best speed of 107.37mph (21min 05.1sec).

Darran Lindsay, another of the Ulster pure roads specialists, took his Honda to a 106.91mph (21min 10.5sec) lap, while Joey Dunlop lapped his Honda at a speed of 105.83mph (21min 23.4sec).

Sadly, we have to report that English sidecar passenger, Stephen Wood, died from fatal injuries received during a crash in Monday evening’s practice session.
