Chris Vermeulen to World SuperSport

Castrol Honda have decided to drop Shinya Takeishi and are putting young Chris Vermeulen on the Castrol Honda CBR 600.

Castrol Honda team manager Neil Tuxworth said: "It's been a difficult year for Shinya. This has been his first time racing outside Japan and chasing one of the closest fought world titles in motorcycling and adapting to life in Europe and has been tough on him.  Shinya has also suffered a number of injuries this year which have not allowed him to show his full potential.  The most recent crash at Brands Hatch was a heavy fall and forced him out of the event. We've learnt a lot this year with Shinya and the team is thankful for his determined efforts during the 2000 season aboard the Castrol CBR600."

Castrol Honda will have Australian rider Chris Vermeulen riding alongside its regular team rider Pere Riba for the remainder of the 2000 championship.   "The opportunity to ride in the last three races of the World Supersport Championship is fantastic, I have seen the Castrol team in action before and it will be good experience for the future". Said Chris "Luckily the last three races in the World Championship don't clash with any of the British rounds so I will be getting a lot of racing over the next few months and I just can't wait."

Vermeulen, 18, is in his first year of racing in the British championships and is lying sixth in the British Supersport championship and third in the British Superstock championship.

Remaining World Supersport championship rounds:
September 3 - Assen,  Holland
September 10 - Oschersleben,Germany
October 15 - Brands Hatch, GB.
