Race 1 A pretty even start but Kevin Curtain got the run into turn one and led Steve Martin around Skyline for the first time today. Curtain, Martin, Fergusson and local rider Same Reynolds were the top four as they commenced lap two. Martin' slowed at the end of lap 3 and came into the pits to have his fairing repaired as it was flapping about in the wind. Lap four and Curtain now had one second over Fergusson with Sam Reynolds less than a second behind Krusty and slowly being caught by Jamie Stauffer. Stauffer did get under Reynolds for third as they started lap six. Krusty then started to close the gap to Kevin Curtain now and was only half a second behind on lap seven. Jason Kain lost it before Skyline and his bike must have landed with the throttle jammed wide open as it revved to the stratosphere before lunching itself big time. A few moments later Adrian Mettam lost it when driving onto the main straight, this happened just as the race was being red flagged due to Kain's unfortunate incident. Also, local rider Chris Galbraith had been riding around without knowing that he actually had a little BBQ happening in his bellypan. The red flag forced the riders to have a second leg. The grid for the re-start was taken from the previous running order - Curtain, Fergusson, Jamie Stauffer, Reynolds, Turnbull, Baird. Reynolds got the holeshot but Stauffer led them out of turn one, somehow Kevin Curtain managed to squeeze past Reynolds in the turn. Krusty got through on Stauffer in turn one on the second time through in a brave move. Reynolds took Stauffer for third and Robbie Baird also made it through. Curtain, Fergusson, Reynolds and Baird was the race order on the track but with the result only being decided on combined results from the first part of the race nobody really knew where they stood. Baird took Reynolds on lap 12 and Kevin Curtain stretched his lead over Krusty out to a full second. As they got the last lap board the order on the track was Curtain, Fergusson, Baird and Reynolds in 4th, but the WA rider was coming under attack from Chad Turnbull. Turnbull under brakes into the final turn squeezed under Reynolds but the local rider still got good drive and took fourth on the line which on combined time moved him up to third. A fantastic race.

Race 2 The front row consisted of Martin, Curtain, Fergusson and Baird. Robbie Baird left the line first with Steve Martin right behind. That was until Curtain stuck it up and under Martin through the Esses. But Martin then got a great run through the basin and top drive up the hill and took everybody on the down hill straight to take the lead at the final turn. Curtain 2nd, Baird 3rd, Fergusson 4th and Reynolds 5th at this early stage of the race. Curtain closed right up on the tail of Martin on lap four and started to mount a serious challenge on the Ducati mounted Martin. Curtain and Martin went side by side through turn one, but Martin held the Yamaha man out. Curtain then went under Martin in turn one a few laps later and this time made it stick. Martin then out-braked himself at the end of the back straight with five laps to run. Martin's error lost him nearly one and a half seconds and handed Curtain the sure win. Curtain finished with a clean sweep of the Supersport class to add to his clean sweep in the Superbike category. A stellar weekend for the Radar's Yamaha outfit. |
