Canadian SuperBike 2000 - Round 2 - Preview
| Autodrome, ST. Eustache, Laval Quebec, (1/2 hour NorthWest of Montreal) Circuit Length: 1.1 Miles. 1999 Results Superbike: Francis Martin, Kawasaki ZX7RR Open Sportbike: Clint McBain, Kawasaki ZX9R 600 Sportbike: Linnley Clark, Yamaha R6 Background: Quebec is a hotbed for any form of racing. Like Race City Speedway, St Eustache is a multi-use facility. The motorcycles use part of the four-tenths mile stock car circuit in their 1.1 mile road course, and when the motorcycles are off the track, the CASCAR stock cars come out Saturday Night. This Makes course conditions particularly challenging for the Motorcycle Racers, as the stock car oval tends to get a build up of oil and rubber. The Remainder of the track is tight and bumpy. Passing is difficult and course conditions tend to favour the smaller capacity machinery-like the 600s. As at Race City, spectators in the start/finish grandstand get a magnificent view of the opposite side of the track. This includes the daunting chichane at the end of the backstraight, where some of the most dramatic passes of the weekend occur. Who's Hot: Honda Canada is back in Canadian Racing with a vengence. The RC51 is proving more than enough motorcycle to displace the favoured Big Green Machine, Kawasaki . Jordan Szoke leads the series with TWO race wins at Race City Speedway in Calgary. Hot on his heels is returning AMA veteran Steve Crevier whom finished 2nd in both races. With these results, Honda grabbed most of the available points leaving Suzuki, Kawasaki and Yamaha far behind in the points. Kawasaki has been the most dominant force in Canadian Racing for the past decade. Winning 9 Straight Canadian Superbike Championships. #1 Plate holder and last years race winner Francis Martin must be a strong favourite at his home track. He finished off the podium in 4th in both races at Race City Speedway and is fourth in the championship. Michael Taylor once again showed that he is the fastest racer in Canada at Race City finishing 3rd in the 1st race, and crashing out of the lead in the 2nd. His Big 170hp ZX900R will be more than a handful on this tight and bumpy track. Suzukis Linnley Clark is on a roll. Unretired since last year and landing a Superbike ride after a 5 year absence, Linnley has given Suzuki something this year that they never saw last year. A podium finish. The competition is stiff and Suzuki has put all their marbles in one bag. Linnley sits a surprising 3rd in the Championship with his 5th and 3rd places finishes at Race City. Expect the bumpy Track to suit the light and nimble Suzuki. Also expect for him to use the more subtle 750cc Superbike vs the kitted 900 extreme motor he used in Calgary. Yamaha has two very formidable racers in Benoit Pilon and Frank Trombino on their R1 Superbikes. Pilon is at his home track and always performs at the top of his game. Trombino has shown that he has the talent to run up front on tracks outside of Shannonville. Trombinos superbike was a write off after Calgary and it is uncertain what he will race come round #2. Surprises: There is a term "Crazy Frenchmen" which is relative to the
passion with which the Quebec racers come to the track . When at the Quebec events expect the local racers and regular national French racers
to come to the front with some wild and bold manouvers. Suprises could come from Gregory Boki, Francios Dumas, Mike Leon and Jean Francios Cyr.
Expect the racing to be "side by each". |
