World SuperBike 2000 - Round 10 - Brands Hatch - Quotes
| Troy Bayliss - "I'm really pleased about today's result. Even though in race 2 I had a bit of a vibration in the bike, which made things a bit more difficult. It was difficult to keep up with the pace in race 2 set by Neil. After the restart in race 2, I had to concentrate really hard on getting a good start." |
| Neil
Hodgson - "Fantastic win today, I'm really pleased.
Troy and I are friends not only on the track, but also outside, and I'm really
pleased to have been able to share the wins with him today. Today's win was the result of the fantastic work that the team has done this weekend, they were great." |
| Troy Corser - "It's been a crazy day and I'm pretty fed up really. My start in race one wasn't good, but I chased and hustled and got back in contention before just running out of laps. The second race was a disaster. I fell and probably caused Akira to do so as well. But when I tried to get up, a marshal was holding me down. He said I'd had 'a big one' and that I should stay still. I told him I was fine, but then as I tried to get up some more marshal came along and they all held me down and stopped me getting up. I was OK! I didn't have any concussion, but I heard them telling each other that I did! I wanted to get back to the pits and get on my spare bike for the re-start, but I was prevented from doing it! I was taken to the medical centre and our series doctor said I was OK, but the Brands Hatch doctor pushed almost pushed him aside and stopped me from leaving. By the time they realised I was OK, it was too late to make the re-start and that was me out of the race! Apart from a slightly sore left shoulder I am absolutely OK. The pain of not scoring any points is far worse then any pain from the crash!" |
| Noriyuki Haga - "I think it was Hodgson who touched Edwards and when they went down I couldn’t avoid them. Afterwards I was in a lot of pain and now I’ve got bruises on my bruises. It was tough to then switch to my second bike, which felt noticeably different and needed a different riding style. We had the ‘A’ bike fixed for race two and I ran with different tyres to try to get more distance out of the grip - it’s a tough track on tyres because they run so hot. The decision seemed to work because race two went better; I’m just glad I’ve managed to close the points gap a bit." |

Colin Edwards - Race 1 - "I must have burnt the clutch out on the start or something -
I couldn't downshift. I felt it first on the first lap, I went to go down three gears into a left and it didn't go, I ran wide and held on as best as I could. I never knew if it was going to downshift or not so I just blipped the throttle and used the front brake a bit more. I know Haga and Corser finished in front of me I'll be OK for race two. My crash in the first start was one of those things. Hodgson ran over the kerb and I had nowhere to go. I got lucky and escaped injury." Race 2 - "About halfway through the race I heard a really loud bang. I didn't have a clue what it was but thought it was on the front of the machine. I looked down and couldn't see anything, everything looked fine. Then every time I braked hard the front end just hopped across the track, there was nothing I could do to control it. The front wheel is badly peppered with little marks so maybe I hot a stone or something. It was a real pain because I felt good apart from that and them rear Michelin we went for was working well." |
| Aaron Slight - Race 1 - "I had a gearbox problem. It just kept falling out of gear, I haven't a clue why it started doing that. It was holding me up a lot, I'm sure I could have finished a lot higher. It was an eventful race but I'm disappointed not to have finished higher than seventh. I'll have a look at the tyre choice for race two as well, I think I could have chosen a better compound for the rear." Race 2 - "The clutch was slipping from the start and I was going too hard trying to make up the ground. It eventually caught me out going into Druids. I should have done the sensible thing and pulled in but I've paid the price for not doing that. It's disappointing for me because I thought I might get a good result here but it's not to be - hopefully at Assen." |
| Akira Yanagawa - "My clutch wasn't working properly at the start so I lost a few positions. Then I realized that my front brakes weren't perfect also so I had to readjust them. Even though it was still a strange feeling at hard braking. I finally could improve my lap times towards the end, but that was too late to catch the group in front of me." |
| Gregorio Lavilla - "The start was great and I could make up a few positions. In the race I had big problems in the hairpin corner were I didn't have a good position on the bike and highsided later on. I let Akira pass because I was already finished ad mid race and just tried to bring my position home." |
| Juan Borja - "I lost the front end of the bike shortly after overtaking Meklau while I was ninth. I was pushing too hard and slid off. I can't deny that I had a few problems with the Brands Hatch track, it was very difficult for me here." |
| Pierfrancesco Chili - "My rear tyre was sliding around a lot in the first race and it was a difficult just to maintain my position. But, I just kept going and grabbed as many points as I could. The second race was better! It was wonderful to get back onto the podium after what felt like a long time. It was good to do it at Brands Hatch where I have so many loyal fans. I needed a podium again and I got it. I hope that I will be completely 100% fit for Assen and that I can again challenge for the podium - hopefully two times!" |
| Katsuaki Fujiwara - "The first race my Japanese Dunlop didn't work as well as I thought it would and I had many slides. It was really hard to control the throttle and I just went as hard as I felt was safe and tried to get into the points. In race two, I used a British rear Dunlop and it worked much better. But my gearing was a little off and I found it difficult to get good traction. But I managed tenth and after not qualifying for Superpole, I think tenth is not so bad." |
