Duhamel looking forward to Daytona
| You would think three Daytona 200 By Arai titles
would satisfy Miguel Duhamel, but he wants more. "Obviously I'd like to win it one more time, at least one more time,"
said Duhamel, who'll be seeking his fourth Daytona 200 win in this year's North American motorcycle classic on March 11.
"Heck, I'd like to win it two more times and tie the guy (Scott Russell) that's got five." The 60th annual Daytona 200 By Arai will mark Duhamel's 10th appearancein the race. He won his very first outing in the Daytona 200 back in 1991 (he had qualified for the 1990 race, but was injured in practice and did not start the event). Duhamel won his second 200 at Daytona in 1996 by a half-bike length over Russell and captured his third in 1999, when he edged Mat Mladin by .014 seconds. If Duhamel can win the Daytona 200 at least one more time, he would become the only four-time champion. "In 2000, I was disappointed," said Duhamel, a native of Montreal. "I felt we had a good shot at winning it and wound up not being that competitive unfortunately. I don't think that's going to happen again in 2001, at least I hope not." The 33-year-old Duhamel, who finished ninth in the 2000 AMA Superbike championship standings, likes his chances this year on the factory Honda RC51. "The bike is good, especially on tracks like Daytona and Road America," Duhamel said. "The bike's got a lot of speed and it definitely works well. On the tighter, smaller tracks like Loudon or Colorado, we've been running into difficulties, but that's to be expected because it's in the first year of racing development and you're refining the bike from race to race. I think this year is really going to be a stronger year for Honda." Riders
