Can 'Mr. Daytona', Scott Russell win his 6th Sixth Daytona 200 By Arai on a Ducati?
| Scott Russell has been so successful at Daytona International Speedway that he's nicknamed "Mr.
Daytona."
In the 60th annual Daytona 200 By Arai on March 11, he'll be gunning for his sixth Daytona 200 win aboard the HMC Racing Ducati. It's a new lease on life for Russell this season. The last two years, he struggled riding for Harley-Davidson and wasn't considered a real threat at winning the most prestigious North American motorcycle race. But now that he's aboard the Ducati, the word in the garage is that Scott's back. "I've been standing in the shadows for two years and it's time to step up to the plate and swing the back and I'm ready," Russell said. "I definitely like to win the Daytona 200 again." Russell is ready for the obstacles of the Daytona 200 By Arai, which has one of the strongest fields in the history of the race, which dates back to 1937. "It's always been a race that comes easy to me," Russell said. "We're going to just come in here and do our own thing. The field is getting deeper and deeper every year. The bikes are getting better. You got Suzuki fielding three riders, Honda with three riders. They're serious, they want to win." Russell, who has won the Daytona 200 By Arai in 1992, 1994, 1995, 1997 and 1998, says managing your tires and solid pit stops are key to winning at Daytona. "The tyres are the big thing," Russell said. "You got to be able to manage your tires. You got to be able to ride on these brick-hard tires for 57 laps without getting into trouble. Good pit stops help too. "I think (experience) and knowing how to ride the bike and saving the tire is critical. Being able to run fast on the hard tires is what others guys have problems with."
