American SuperSport 2001 - Laguna Seca - Results

Eric Bostrom won the Pro Honda 600 SuperSport race by almost 10-seconds? Bostrom rode his factory Kawasaki ZX6 to an amazing 9.747-second margin of victory over Yoshimura Suzuki’s Aaron Yates. Fellow Suzuki rider Jamie Hacking was third after a good race against Yates.

Starting from the pole, Bostrom took command of the race from the start. He led into turn one and came around on the first lap with a 2.7-second lead in hand. From there it just got better, with Bostrom pulling away steadily each lap.

Yates and Hacking emerged from a big group of riders tussling over second place, which included Anthony Gobert, who was riding injured. The Suzuki team-mates pulled clear of the rest of the field, but had no chance of catching Bostrom

Bostrom’s victory makes him the first two-time winner of the season and expands his points lead 163 to 142 over Gobert.

The injured Gobert rode a brave race, battled up front early, but faded to a seventh-place finish. It was a brave performance and helped him keep his second-place ranking in the standings.
