Helmets to sponsor the 2001 Australian 250 Production Championship |
|
Lazer helmets have signed a deal where they will be the naming rights sponsor for what is now to be known as the 'Lazer Helmets Australian 250 Production Championship'. Bruce Collins Enterprises is the distributor for Lazer Helmets in Australia and will not only lend his support to the 2001 250 Production Championship but also to the 2001 Australian Sidecar Championship. Over the last decade the Australian 250 Production Championship has been a great stepping stone to success for racers such as Troy Corser (1990 250 Production Champion went on to a World SuperBike Championship) & Mat Mladin (1991 250 Production Champion went on to 2 American SuperBike Championships). The past two winners have been Broc Parkes in 1999 who now rides a Ducati in World SuperBike and Aaron Gobert took the title last year and now races for Yamaha in the United States. Other riders to do well in the 250 Production Championship over the previous decade include Garry McCoy (current Yamaha GP rider), Warwick Nowland (current World Endurance Champion), Marcus Payten (GP rider), Adam Fergusson (2000 Australian Production SuperBike Champion/Current World SuperSport rider) and Andrew Pitt (World SuperSport rider). The 250 Production machines are predominantly Aprilia RS 250 machines which only pump out around 65 horsepower but cut laptimes only a few seconds slower than the 150+ horsepower SuperBikes. The Championship is a fairly even playing field when it comes to machinery with only the slightest modifications permissible under the rules so machine set-up and riding ability are probably even more important than in any other form of road racing. As an extra incentive for competitors to wear Lazer helmets the company is offering a double your prize money deal for racers wearing a Lazer helmet. The first 3 finishers who are wearing Lazer helmets will have their prize money doubled. It does not matter if they finish 1/2/3 or 1/5/8 as long as they are the top 3 wearers of Lazer helmets their prize money will be doubled. |
