SuperBike Qualifying
SuperSport Qualifying Instead of the scheduled one flying lap of the 2.5-mile Leicestershire track, the top twelve qualifiers from this morning’s session were given 40 minutes to complete a maximum 12 laps after the Superpole session was declared wet. McCarthy’s time of 1m40.124s was two tenths faster than that of Matt Llewellyn who set the second fastest time. Chris Vermeulen of the Castrol Honda World Supersport team was third fastest, with Suzuki’s Karl Harris rounding out the front row. McCarthy’s Castrol Honda team-mate, John McGuinness, posted the sixth fastest time to start tomorrow’s 16-lap race from the second row, just behind the Yamaha of Rob Frost. "We made some changes to the front suspension after this morning’s session," said McCarthy, runner-up in last season’s British championship. "With some new rubber from Dunlop, the new CBR feels really strong so I’m confident of a good start to the year tomorrow." Vermeulen is riding at Donington as a wild card, taking the opportunity for further testing with the new Castrol Honda before heading to Australia for round two of the World Supersport series. "I had a couple of good results here last year," said the Australian teenager, "so it’s a good opportunity to compare the new bike with last year’s version. With the damp conditions, it’s not been easy, but the new CBR’s definitely feeling good so I’m looking forward to racing here." Final qualifying times: |
