Championship positions, Round 3/13: 1 John Reynolds 145, Steve Hislop 118, James Haydon 89, John Crawford 77, SuperSport Castrol Honda’s Kirk McCarthy maintained a 12-point lead at the head of the British Supersport championship table with a hard-earned second place in today’s third round encounter at Snetterton. Starting from third place on the grid, McCarthy spent the early laps involved in a fierce battle for second with Frost, McGuinness and the Suzuki-mounted pairing of Karl Harris and Paul Young. By lap nine, however, McCarthy had made the position his own and was able to hold off the hard-charging Frost to the flag. "That was a fight," said the 31-year-old after the 20-lap affair around the 1.952-mile Norfolk circuit.
"I was too busy in my own battle to think about Llewellyn who had gone. After I passed Frost I tried to make a break but missed a gear and couldn’t get away. Apart from that I had no real problems because the Honda CBR is working really well now that the front-end chatter has gone. I’ll be looking forward to Oulton Park next
week." Championship points : McCarthy 70, Llewellyn 58, McGuinness 46, Smart 31, Harris 26, Frost 26, Quigley 21, Young 20, Glen Richards 19, Woolsey Coulter 16. SuperStock Superstock Result: 1.
