Suzuki’s Karl Harris took pole position for the 18-lap race
around the 2.35-mile Hampshire circuit with the Yamaha of Matt Llewellyn
sandwiched in third place by two Castrol Honda CBR600F Sport machines.
“I’m a bit disappointed not to have held on to
pole,” said McGuinness, winner of the last round at Brands Hatch two weeks
ago. “I was looking at P1 on my pit board for most of the session but I got
baulked a little at the end and that gave Karl his chance. I’m happy with my
race set-up though and looking forward to my second win tomorrow.”
McCarthy was fastest in the first wet qualifying session this morning but
lack of time prevented him getting an ideal dry set up for his SuperSport
Honda.
“I’ll be happy if it rains tomorrow,” said the Australian, currently leading
the British Supersport championship from McGuinness by 25 points, “because
the wet bike is great! I was losing grip over the Thruxton bumps though so
we’ll have to get it right for the race.”
Castrol Honda team-manager, Roger Harvey, is happy with the team’s
performance today saying: “Considering what little set up time we’ve had,
I’ll settle for two front row positions. Let’s not forget the Honda CBR600F
Sport has been fully revised this year so every circuit is pretty much new.”
