| Michelin will sponsor the
Australian SuperBike events at the Australian GP. It will also sponsor the eight new superscreens that are set to make
trackside viewing of the action an even better experience. A new on-course
television service, dubbed GPTV, will be dedicated to bringing Grand Prix
patrons all the event's action, including qualifying, on the huge Michelin
superscreens. All grandstands at the track will enjoy superscreen views,
as will neighbouring general admission areas.
Seven of the giant superscreens will be fixtures at the Phillip Island
circuit throughout the Grand Prix, while the eighth will do double duty in
the Gardner Straight centre area during the days and in the township of
Cowes to broadcast the action-packed entertainment program for the Friday
and Saturday night street parties.
Superbikes, the other beneficiaries of Michelin sponsorship will make an
excellent extra attraction to the GP. It is the first year they have been
the major support cast to the international Grand Prix categories.
The Michelin Superbikes will have a 20-minute practice session on the
afternoon of Thursday, October 11, with a 20-minute qualifying session
later that day, and there will be eight-lap Michelin Superbike races on
the afternoons of Friday, October 12, and Saturday, October 13.
Michelin's motor sports slogan is Developing Technology in Competition and
it's record includes almost 600 motorcycle Grand Prix wins and 60 titles
since 1964, including more than 270 race wins and 20 titles in the 500cc
category, as well as more than 200 Superbike wins and eight titles since
1988.
