2001 Grand Prix 500 - Round 10 - Brno

Biaggi got the jump but Roberts slotted underneath to the lead them through turn 1, Biaggi 2nd then it was Abe in 3rd for a couple of corners before Rossi took him on a quick change of direction.

Max back through for the lead a couple of laps later. McCoy started to fight his way through the field after a terrible start. Rossi passed Roberts to move up to 2nd.

Not a good day for the Australians so far with both Brendan Clarke and Shaun Geronomi retiring before one third race distance.

Rossi set a new lap record on his way to chasing down Biaggi and in the process left Roberts in his wake with 16 laps to go.

Abe on the pace and passed Roberts for 3rd.

Lap 10 of 22 - Biaggi, Rossi, Abe, Roberts, Criville is the race order. Rossi only a couple of tenths behind Biaggi and looking threatening.

Biaggi down on lap 14 after losing the front but picked his bike up out of the gravel trap after sliding down the road and rejoined the race in 12th, some 27 seconds behind Rossi. This of course promoted Abe to 2nd, Criville now 3rd, Capirossi 4th and McCoy 5th.

Anthony West pulls into the pits and retires and shortly after Roberts entered the pits, parked his bike and walked out through the back of the garage with 7 laps to run.

Rossi now having it easy out in front with 2nd placed Abe being chased down by Criville and Capirossi.

With 2 laps to go Criville slotted through on Abe for 2nd at the end of the main straight, Capirossi then got both of them before running a little wide and being re-taken by Criville but he still holds out Abe. Abe trying hard to get back through on Capirossi who is trying hard to hold him out and nearly got bucked out of the seat on the exit of one right hander.
