Garry McCoy's thought on the run to Motegi this weekend

Red Bull Yamaha 500cc rider Garry McCoy will race for only the second time at Japan's Motegi track in this weekend's Pacific Grand Prix. McCoy crashed and failed to finish this race a year ago in his only previous start at the 4.8 km Motegi track which combines a banked Indy car oval and road course.

With 62 points McCoy is 12th in the world championship. He has recovered from the severe leg cramp and bruising suffered during a disappointing Valencia GP in late September when McCoy struggled to finish 12th in a rain-affected race.

During a wild slide early in the race McCoy's right thigh was painfully jabbed by the footrest of his Yamaha.

"My leg is fine now, it was just bruising and a bad cramp that made it difficult to walk for a couple of hours after the race in Valencia," McCoy said.

"It won't be a problem for Motegi. "Despite the disappointment of Valencia I'm still looking for some results before the end of the season and the 'flyaways' (long-haul races outside Europe) are sometimes unpredictable.

"I had a good race in Japan at the beginning of the season but being on the podium six months ago doesn't count now. Everybody is running harder every weekend; it's pretty flat out."

At Suzuka in April McCoy finished a close second to Italian Valentino Rossi in the Japanese GP but later missed five races because of a fractured wrist.

"Quite a few of the corners at Motegi are stop-go and there are no really long fast straights so I think. like the past few races, it is going to be really competitive with a lot of very close times.

"Starting up the front is going to be an advantage, so I'll be looking for a decent qualifying lap. Our Red Bull Yamaha set-up should suit the place and, even though I've only had one race there, I think we can get on the pace."
