After leaving Estoril with the fifth best time, Tohru Ukawa continues to impress with his fast adaptation to the 500 class during his first pre-season in the highest Grand Prix category.
Second yesterday right behind his compatriot Haga, the Team Repsol YPF Honda rider climbed to the top of the list with the fastest time of the day. The low temperatures, unusual in this region of the Mediterranean, and strong winds stopped the attending riders from improving on
yesterday's lap times.
Tohru Ukawa, 1st in 1.36.139 sec. (64 laps, 256 kilometres)
"We had two very positive days. The team did a great job, and we are leaving this test session with a lot of valuable information. We did a simulation of a full race today as we
have done in Estoril and Jerez, with a total of 25 laps without stopping. The lap times were very close to the ones of last
year's Grand Prix, even though the weather wasn't on our side today. My feeling is getting better every time
I'm on the bike, which allows me to get closer and closer to the times at the top. We had some front end patter for a while, but once the front fork set-up was sorted, my bike ran like clockwork once
again!"
