| Kawerau’s Tony Rees won four out of the five big bike races at round three of the "Battle of the Streets" at Paeroa yesterday, on board his Yamaha
R1.
While coming out of the last corner in the first Formula Paeroa race, Rees selected a false neutral and the hard charging Brian Bernard from Wanganui, blasted past to take the win.
Rees won the two Open Sports Production class races comfortably from Shaun Harris and Bernard and took out the other Formula Paeroa (Superbikes) race from the current New Zealand champion Dean Fulton after Harris crashed while chasing Rees.
Winning the "Robert Holden" memorial race was the highlight of Rees day.
"Robert was such a great sportsman and a real pleasure to race. I am always happy winning one of his memorial
races," said Rees.
Having chosen not to compete in round two at Gisborne, Rees was not able to take out any of the Series trophies. However he still picked up three seconds in the three classes he competed in. In fact, in the last Open Sports Production class he was just one point behind winner Harris.
New Plymouth’s Shaun Harris picked up four series wins in, 600cc Sports Production, Formula Two, Open Sports Production and The "Robert Holden Memorial" series. The Formula Open (Superbikes) win went to Tauranga’s Dean Fulton, with Formula Three going to New Plymouth’s Terry Fitzgerald. Colin Buckley (Auckland) and Darren Abrahams (Gisborne) took out the Sidecar series.
