- Racing - German 24 hour - While
the French based works Suzuki Endurance Team gave the German round a miss, the Suzuki GB based M&P Phase One held
on to their world championship lead by the narrowest of margins
after finishing second on their GSX-R750 machine. The race was
very closely fought throughout the twenty-four hours of the race.
The top three teams of Phase One, GMT94 from France and Bolliger
from Switzerland were locked in battle from the start, often only
separated by the time needed to swap rider and
tyres. During the night, all three had minor
problems; Phase One swapped a wiring loom in eleven minutes, GMT94
suffered carb-icing and Bolliger had transmission problems.
Phase One rider Warwick Nowland was very happy with the team’s
GSXR750. “Without a doubt, we’ve got the best bike out there”.
His team-mate Stephane Mertens backed this up with the fastest lap
of the race - 1:32.573. GMT stretched out a slight lead early on
Sunday morning, but Phase One held second place to the end,
maintaining their points lead in the World Championship.
The next race is the Bol D’Or at Magny Cours on September 16/17th.
