World SuperBike 2001 - Round 1 - Race 2 - Valencia

Can the two Troys do it to them again?

Corser got a good leave but Edwards had the real flyer and leads into turn 1 but Corser takes it right back from him in turn 2 but Okada came down heavily and got thrown around like a rag doll.  He ran in way too hot and banged into the side of Laconi who will be lucky if he got away with a bike that can finish the race.  Let's hope he is alright.  A few seconds later the Japanese Castrol Honda pilot was up and about.

Troy getting a better start in this race and ahs already started to clear out from Edwards who is using a different compound tyre to what he did in race 1.

Half a second over Edwards by the end of lap 1, then Bayliss, Lavilla, Hodgson, Bostrom, Xaus, Chili, Izutsu, Yanagawa, Chambon.  Bostrom scored a stop & go penalty for jumping the gun.

A fair gap from Corser back to Edwards who in turn has a small gap over Bayliss who has Lavilla right up his clacker.  Borciani and Izutsu down but not too badly injured.

Corser has 1.8 seconds over Edwards now with 3 laps gone by and Bayliss is being hounded by Lavilla.  Bostrom completes his stop & go penalty on lap 4.

Bayliss and Lavilla are closing on Edwards.  Hodgson a little further back in 5th.  Bussei down.

Troy Corser now 3 seconds ahead of Edwards' Honda.  The other manufacturers are going to be VERY worried after this weekend if Corser continues to walk away with it.

Lavilla through on Bayliss for 3rd and right on Edwards, around the outside but can't make it stick so has to back off a little which let Bayliss back through.

The action is in this battle for 2nd.  Bostrom received another stop & go for speeding in pit lane when he came in to serve his first stop & go penalty, if this man can still smile at the end of today as he normally does I will be amazed.  A better ambassador for the USA there could not be.

Bayliss under Edwards and immediately starts clearing out.  Lavilla challenging Edwards and surely it is only a matter of time before the Kawasaki man finds a way through.

Corser now has a 5.5 second lead with 15 laps to go.  Bayliss has some clear air in front of him now but will probably still not be able to catch the flying Aprilia.  Lavilla through on Edwards, I have never seen a Kawasaki handle so well.  Bostrom came in for his 2nd stop & go but pulled straight into his pit.  Steve Martin around 12th.

Hodgson still in 5th - Xaus, Yanagawa and Chili are battling for 6th.

Lavilla still right on Bayliss and looking incredibly strong, stable and very quick.

13 laps to run and Corser has a huge 7 second lead, unbelievable.  Broc Parkes in 13th.

Corser and the Aprilia look absolutely amazing, if this is a sign of things to come the others are in for a frustrating year.  How sick (that means disappointed) must Goddard be?  He put in the groundwork with the RSV Mille development and when it has all come together he has been left out in the cold.

5 laps to go - Corser, country mile, Bayliss, Lavilla, country mile, Edwards, Hodgson, Yanagawa, Chili, Xaus, Chambon, Toseland, Borciani, Ulm, Parkes, Borja, Pedercini.

With 3 laps to run Toseland went through on Chambon for 9th.

Corser playing about a little or losing a little concentration out of a bend and came close to a highside.  Bayliss has broken away from Lavilla.

Lovely stand up wiggle it all about mono from Corser across the line as he celebrates his double.  The other teams will be shaking in their boots...
