World SuperBike 2001 - Round 11 - Oschersleben - Troy Corser Preview

The eleventh round of the 2001 Superbike World Championship takes place at Motopark Oschersleben in Germany. The circuit was opened in 1997 and this is the second year that the circuit has hosted a round of the Superbike World Championship. The 3.667 kilometre track is fairly flat and the design and narrowness of it make for difficult overtaking.

At Oschersleben last year, Troy did not have a good race day. In the first race, his Aprilia was hit by Spaniard Juan Borja and the RSV's radiator was damaged, causing the water temperature to rise. Troy should have taken third place, but the bike expired at the final chicane on the last lap. He pulled in the clutch and kept going and just managed to cross the line, but was overtaken by four riders and ended up seventh. Worse was to come in race two, when the Aprilia went bang before the first turn: it was the first time the bike had broken in a race all year.

TROY - "I don't believe it's possible for me to have bad luck again at Oschersleben like last year. Last season we were in with a chance of a title, but Oschersleben put paid to any hopes of that. Up until then we had done better then we had expected and so the race was a bit of a disaster.
This year is very different. At the start, we expected to be challenging for the title at the end, but we've had too many tyre problems and the flow has been disrupted. We've no chance of the title this year, but I'm going all out in the last three rounds to get back to winning ways again.
Oschersleben is a one-line track, so it's important to be on the front row in qualifying and then make good starts in the races. That's what I'll be chasing for sure and a couple of wins of course!"

2000 RESULTS - Race 1: 7th; Race 2: DNF
