Troy Corser testing in Kyalami - Wednesday

Although Troy was once again unable to put in a full day's testing, he managed to post a sub 1:43 second lap without too much difficulty.

In the morning session he immediately settled into a rhythm and was knocking on the 1:42 door.

Using both RSV 1000s with step 2 engines, Troy attacked the Kyalami track and was rewarded with a lap of 1:42.761, over half a second inside the current lap record and just outside his own Superpole winning time of last season.

It was all the more remarkable because it was done on race rubber rather then a qualifying tyre.

It looked like Troy was on his way to posting the first 1:41 lap, but illness prevented him improving his lap time. The fact that the track temperature was over 40 C probably didn't help either!

Troy - "I felt pretty good when I arrived at the track this morning and soon got into the groove. The Aprilia felt good and strong and it wasn't long before we were able to do a sub 1:43 lap - and really it wasn't that hard to do. We carried on trying out a few things and I thought it would be possible to do a 1:41 lap, but in the afternoon, I started feeling a bit rough and began sweating a lot, so we decided to stop. I hadn't even tried any qualifying tyres! If I can get a good night's sleep and conditions are OK tomorrow, then I'm sure I can improve quite a bit on my lap time. I'm happy enough with the way the tests are going and I'll be even happier to leave here with the fastest lap overall."
