GSE testing in Kyalami - Final Day

GSE Racing's Neil Hodgson has set the fastest time on his factory 996 Ducati during the SBK winter test at the Kyalami circuit in South Africa. His record-breaking lap of 1:41.477 not only edged out Troy Bayliss's best time by half a second, and current World Champion Colin Edwards by almost a second, but was two seconds faster than Carl Fogarty's lap record from last year's race.

"I went to South Africa with the aim of starting my 2001 campaign where I had left off last season," said the 27-year-old British Superbike Champion, who now lives on the Isle of Man. "So, I am pleased to have set the fastest time ever achieved on two wheels at the Kyalami circuit."

GSE Racing team-mate James Toseland (20) rode almost a full race distance today on the Ducati, with his best time set during Monday's afternoon session at 1:44.383.

"I had to learn a lot in a short space of time," explained the Yorkshire rider, "But the entire team has been superb. "I have been able to finish the Kyalami test on a positive note and to complete a race distance in a respectable time thanks to the help and advice that Neil Hodgson, Colin Wright and the team have passed on to me over the past four days."

Team Manager Colin Wright summed up the mood in the GSE camp: "I am delighted by the performance of the team throughout the Kyalami test. We have found a good qualifying and race set-up and the team is looking forward to coming back here for the second round of the championship on 1st April."

GSE Racing's next appearance is at the SBK winter test at Valencia, Spain, on 18-19 February.
