World SuperSport - Round 6 - Lausitzring - Friday Qualifying
|
Defending World Supersport champion Jorg Teuchert made the most of a drying track to set the fastest time in Friday afternoon's opening qualifying session for round six of the championship at the Lausitzring circuit in Germany. With light rain for much of the day at the 2.65-mile circuit near Dresden, Teuchert took advantage by fitting lightly-cut intermediate tyres as the rain stopped while most of his rivals were still circulating on wet weather tyres at the end of the one-hour session. Teuchert's time is likely to count for nothing with dry weather forecast for Saturday. Veteran Italian Fabrizio Pirovano ended the day second quickest with Alpha Technik Honda's Adam Fergusson third and Vittoriano Guareschi, on a Ducati, completing the provisional front row of the grid for Sunday's 23-lap race. James Whitham was fifth quickest with his Yamaha team-mate Paolo Casoli sixth. Ten Kate Honda's Fabien Foret recorded the ninth fastest time while his team-mate Pere Riba lost any chance of a fast lap when he crashed, without injury, with two minutes to go in the session. Riba finished the day in 25th place. The BKM Hondas of Kevin Curtain and Cristiano Migliorati were 11th and 28th respectively while Fergusson's team-mate Markus Barth was 18th. Shannon Johnson was 14th quickest. Castrol Honda's Chris Vermeulen was 19th, he said: "I should have come into the pits earlier for intermediate tyres but it became too late so I stayed out there on the wets. I improved by about three seconds on this morning's time so I'm happy with the first day and everyone seems to think it'll be dry tomorrow so I go for a fast lap then." World SuperSport title contender
Muggeridge had some problems and finished the day only 26th
fastest. Privateer Ducati rider Dean Thomas was 29th out of a 35
strong field. |
