World SuperSport 2001 - Round 6 - Lausitzring - Quotes
|
Kevin Curtain - "I was holding fifth place when the race was stopped and I knew that if the rain really came down I could win, It's always tricky in the wet but for some reason I always feel comfortable." Adam Fergusson - “Its about time that I was back with the leaders, the CBR600F4i is such a great package and I know I can run with these guys. I have spent a lot of time with Glyn (Griffiths) and Garry (House) to work out where we can improve, and it has really paid off. I am really pleased with the result, said Adam, it was a hard race and I was happy to settle for second position and not risk crashing. The weekend went really well for us and the guys did a great job in supporting and working with me to get a podium finish." Andrew Pitt - "Conditions were really bad out there once the rain set in. I was having a lot of trouble going down the straight and the bike was wheelspinning in a straight line. I couldn't see anything unless I looked over the top of the screen. Basically I had to follow the tracks of the guys in front of me so I could see which way the corners went. It was raining harder in some parts of the track than others, so all you could do was keep the concentration going and try to survive. When (Katsuaki) Fujiwara went out I knew Kevin (Curtain) was in front, then Adam (Ferguson), and then me. Near the end I knew (Vittoriano) Guareschi was coming up on me so I tried to bring it home and keep in front of him. These races can be a lottery when the weather turns bad, so it was good to get some decent points for the championship. We've scored points in every race so far and that's what we've got to keep doing for the rest of the season." Jörg Teuchert - “I am very angry because I had a good chance to earn 20 or 25 points today. I ran off the track because the bike aquaplaned on me at the end of the back straight. I had braked early and went down the gears but still the back end came off the track and I had to let the brakes off. I finally toppled over but I got started again and made up some places to take seventh. I know the championship battle has now tightened up, but I really knew I could get even more points.” Christian Kellner - “I was suffering in that race. I am still not completely fit after my sinus infection and I was having some problems with concentration and stamina. But I really wanted to race at home in Germany and I didn’t give up in the race itself. I hope I can be fully fit in time for the next race.” Paolo Casoli - “We are crazy to ride in these conditions and the Race Direction should have stopped the race. My bike was aquaplaning on the straight and I could not see anything for the spray. I only rode to finish at the end, but I managed to earn a point at least.” Karl Muggeridge - “What can I say – I’m very disappointed…. After today’s consisting low 1’44s in the warm up we were very confident to be up the front of this race and it also was looking really good before the race got stopped and had to be declared as a wet one. Even after the second start I felt comfortable in the wet through the first lap until suddenly from lap two onwards I had to face some technical problems which made it impossible to stay up at the front and with only three laps to go the bike gave up completely. Well there’s nothing we can change anymore, I look forward to the next race at Misano and hope we are a bit more lucky.” James Whitham - “I got hit by another rider on the second of the lefts after the start-finish. First I got a small one - more like tickled - from behind and that sat me up a bit. Then I got hit properly again and I went into someone on my outside. That caused the front to tuck under and I went flying over the top. Just one of those messy first lap things that I’m usually quite good at steering clear of. I think my mistake was to go on the inside line, when you are generally safer on the outside during the first lap.” |
