World SuperSport 2001 - Round 6 - Lausitzring - Race Report
|
Foret looked to have possibly jumped the
start. Foret, Riba, Muggeridge, Curtain, Fujiwara, Bontempi,
Teuchert, Cogan, Pitt is the race order as they start lap 2 of 23.
Dean Thomas 16th, Vermeulen 25th, Johnson 27th. Foret gets a jump start penalty. Fujiwara through on Curtain for 4th. Riba down. Foret still out in front but yet to come in for his stop & go penalty so Muggeridge and Fujiwara in 2nd and 3rd are effectively 1st and 2nd. Foret in for his stop & go. Fujiwara under Muggas for the lead but a lap later Muggas gets him back, half a lap later Fujiwara gets him back. Hands are going up, some light rain is falling, red flag we are up for a restart. Restart - Fujiwara, Muggeridge, Teuchert, Cogan, Curtain, Bontempi, Pitt, Casoli, Guareschi, MacPherson. 17 laps. Fujiwara and Teuchert get the jump on the damp track but Cogan also gets a great run. Teuchert, Fujiwara, Cogan, Muggeridge is the race order as they enter turn 3. Muggas through on Cogan a lap later, Curtain also challenging Cogan. Cogan back through on Muggeridge. Curtain through on Cogan for 3rd as the rain starts falling harder. Teuchert. Fujiwara. Curtain, Fergusson, Muggeridge on this race time but not on aggregate. Teuchert, Fujiwara, Curtain, Muggeridge is the race order on combined times. Dean Thomas down. Teuchert loses the rear on the way in to a corner but keeps it upright, but drops it trying to drive through the kitty litter. Curtain through on Fujiwara for the lead and looks to be doing it easy in these atrocious conditions. Curtain the leader, Fujiwara 2nd, Fergusson 3rd and Pitt 4th but these are re-start times. Fujiwara still the leader on aggregate, with 2 seconds over Curtain, so Kevin has to win this restart by at least 2 seconds in order to take the win. Fergusson right with Fujiwara now. Fujiwara, Curtain, Fergusson, Pitt, Cogan., Guareschi, Muggeridge is the race order on aggregate time but Curtain is only a couple of tenths behind Fujiwara on aggregate but much faster on the track so will be the outright leader any time soon. Curtain now leading on aggregate with 9 laps to go. Fujiwara down. 8 laps to run. Curtain, Fergusson, Pitt, Guareschi is the race order on aggregate but Curtain has this wrapped up if he does not make a mistake. Vermeulen is up into 7th on aggregate. Curtain, Fergusson, Pitt - Aussie 1-2-3 on aggregate, it doesn't get any better than this. 4 laps to go. Muggas looks to be having bike trouble.
