Representatives from Motorcycling Australia (MA) and Formula Xtreme met in Sydney on Monday this week to discuss the situation regarding the status of the Tri-state series.

Darryn Hannah, MA’s Operations Manager, and Terry O’Neill, Tri-State promoter, agreed that the Tri-State series is an MA series, and that MA is the relevant controlling body.

MA will sanction the Tri-State series for 2002, agreeing that Formula Xtreme Promotions’ own classes may be run under their own technical rules.

Negotiations will commence between MA and Formula Xtreme Promotions as soon as practicable for the management of the 2003 Australian Superbike Championship, or a combined ASC/Tri-State series.

Mr Hannah said that MA is, and always has been, concerned about the stability and future of road racing.

“The position arrived at on Monday provides a platform for those concerns to be addressed for the benefit of all stakeholders,” he said.

Mr O’Neill said, “The meeting between Darryn Hannah and myself was a positive one and I look forward to trying to come to some long term arrangement with MA regarding 2003 and beyond.

“But for now in 2002 it is a case of steady as she goes,” Mr O’Neill said.
