In front of a huge crowd Glenn Allerton, Ben Attard and Brent George battled for the lead with Jordan Coote and Lachlan Elder also right on their tails.

Victoria's Malcolm Sherrington had a nasty fall on lap 2 but luckily was not too badly injured.

The leading five broke away from the field during the middle stages of the race and swapped positions at nearly every corner. 

Brent George got around Allerton at MG on the final lap and led out of the final turn but Ben Attard got the best run off the corner and pipped George on the line by two-hundredths of a second with Allerton a similar gnat's whisker behind for the final podium spot.

• Oct 20 - News - 125 Free practice finished with Pedrosa quickest in very windy conditions.  A short but considerable shower passed just before the 250 machines headed out for their warm-up.  Melandri proved quickest in 250 warm-up, Stoner 8th, Holland 18th.  Barros was quickest in warm-up for the big bikes from Gibernau and Rossi, wind is a major problem, both Checa and Rossi ran off the circuit at different stages
