Robbie Baird led in to turn 1 from Shawn Giles but Gilesy took the lead in to Honda Corner as Bairdy started to come under attack from team-mate Kevin Curtain.  Nick Henderson fell on the run down to MG but looked relatively unhurt.

Curtain quickly got the better of Bairdy and started closing on Giles as Honda's Josh Brookes went out of the race.

As they commenced lap 3 Giles led Curtain by only one-tenth of a second with Bairdy a similar distance behind Curtain, basically nose-to-tail.  Multiple FX Champion Kevin Curtain going up against multiple Australian SuperBike Champion at Australia's greatest motorcycle circuit.

Jamie Stauffer also joined the fray on lap 3 and slotted past Craig Coxhell and Robbie Baird to move up in to 3rd place.  The leading five running very close together.

Kevin Curtain moved under Giles in an aggressive, but fair, move in to Honda Corner to take the lead on lap 4 and immediately pulled a bike length on Giles out of Siberia and had built that in to a half a second lead by the time they crossed the line to commence lap 5.

Jamie Stauffer pushed Shawn Giles back to 3rd out of Siberia and Craig Coxhell moved past Robbie Baird to sit right on Gilesy's tail in 4th.

Shawn Giles responded well though to take Jamie Stauffer early on lap 6 and set out after Curtain but the FX Tri-State Champion had built a lead of 1.5 seconds while Giles, Stauffer, Coxhell and Baird were fighting for 2nd place.

Jamie Stauffer took 2nd spot back from Giles around the back of the circuit on lap 6, then Craig Coxhell also went past Giles, his chosen position was under brakes in to MG.

With 2 laps to go the race order was Curtain by 2 seconds, then Jamie Stauffer, Shawn Giles, Craig Coxhell and Robbie Baird.  Robert Bugden some 12 seconds down in 6th and by far the leading privateer.

Bairdy got his second wind with a couple of laps to go and moved past Coxhell for 4th.  Giles fighting tooth and nail with Stauffer while Curtain had escaped further, his lead 2.7 seconds as he got the last lap board.

Gilesy got through on Stauffer early on the final lap and kept his 2nd place as they got the flag.  Stauffer 3rd, Baird 4th, Coxhell 5th.  Curtain the convincing winner and the only man to get in to the 1m36s time bracket and with his 1m36.6 set a new Production SuperBike lap record for Phillip Island.
