Josh Brookes got the advantage over defending champion Shawn Giles in race 1, can he do it again ?

Giles got off the line well, Josh's Fireblade twisted up in to a high wheelie but he somehow managed to keep an inside line into turn 1 in 3rd place.  Brookes got past Maxwell around the back of the circuit and set out after Giles.

Josh Brookes pulled an awesome out-braking manoeuvre in to turn 7 on lap 2 and took the lead.  Giles hanging on to the back of him though, Josh riding the wheels off the Fireblade which is monoing out of all the turns with Josh sliding the rear at the same time!  The Fireblade even reared in to a mono down the start/finish straight that time.

On lap 6 Giles got the advantage out of turn 2 but Josh held him off on the entry to turn 3 and kept the lead.  The race pace is in the middle to high 1m08s.

The leaders started to encounter lapped traffic on lap 9 but it didn't seem to slow them up too much.  On lap 10 they had to negotiate a back-marker in the tight turns 7 and 8 but they got through without incident.

Brookes suffered machinery problems on lap 11 which let Giles through as Brookes' Honda sounded as though it was down on a cylinder, or maybe even down 2 cylinders, and suffering an obvious major loss of power.  Alistair Maxwell had a minor off but regained the circuit to continue racing.

Josh's Fireblade limped across the line to finish 2nd, 7 seconds behind Giles, the Sydney teenager will be gutted he couldn't take the win but also glad that he was at least able to salvage points by making it home.

Jay Normoyle's engine expired a couple of laps from the end which left him with a DNF.
