Jamie Stauffer and Shawn Giles got away well but Jamie held out Gilesy on the entry to turn 2 which made Shawn have to delay his turn in, all fair and square, this allowed Jamie to grab a couple of lengths on Giles out of the turn.

Gilesy then blew past Stauffer down the main straight but Jamie again got the advantage in to turn 2 and got his lead right back.  Josh Brookes had recovered from an average start to be right in the fight for the lead on on Giles' back wheel early on lap 2.  Brookes then moved past Giles to take 2nd place and set out after the Yamaha of Jamie Stauffer.

Shawn Giles playing it safe as all he needs to make the championship his in this first race is to effectively come home in the top ten.

This didn't stop Jamie Stauffer and Josh Brookes trading blows at nearly every corner.  Stauffer ran a little wide in to turn 9 but gathered it back up to hold off Brookes.  Gilesy was tempted to join the battle again as they started lap 4 when he pulled alongside Brookes on the straight but decided to let Brookes have the entry in to turn 1.

Jamie Stauffer riding hard to try and keep Brookes at bay.  Robert Bugden was running well in 4th, Alistair Maxwell came to grief at turn 9 on lap 4 while running 5th.

Brookes got even more determined on lap 6 and nearly ran up the back of Stauffer a couple of times when carrying more entry speed but Stauffer was holding on.  Giles had drifted off the back of the leading duo in a safe third place, but he did make a slight excursion on to the dirt when trying to make the gap up.

Brookes took the lead from Stauffer on the entry in to turn 4 but Stauffer got him back in turn 5, then Brookes again at turn 6, a great battle between two great riders.

Josh having to ride really hard to hold off Stauffer, backing the bike in a little before leaving dirty great black lines from his Dunlop on the way out of the turns.

Brookes nearly outbraked himself backing it in to turn 2 on lap 9 which gave Stauffer the opportunity to slide under him but Brookes got him back between turn 3 and 4, this was the final lap and the aggression was on.

Brookes held on for the win from Stauffer.  Giles came home third but the 16 points is enough to give him his third straight Australian SuperBike Championship.
