Russell Holland can
clinch the Australian Championship in this race, only Peter Taplin can
stop him. The two championship contenders were at it from the race start but it was Mark Stanley who proved the early leader. Taplin 2nd, Holland 3rd. Holland got the better of Taplin late in lap 1 and immediately started piling the pressure on Mark Stanley and challenging for the race lead. All Holland has to do to clinch the Championship is finish in front of Taplin as the point difference was only a single point entering this race. But Holland chose to make it more convincing than that by taking the lead on lap 2 from Mark Stanley, Peter Taplin drifting off the back a little in 3rd. By half race distance he was 5 seconds behind the leading duo of Holland and Stanley. Holland took the win by 6 seconds over Stanley. With that win Russell Holland becomes the 2002 Australian 250 GP Champion. Peter Taplin came home a further 8 seconds behind in 3rd place and takes 2nd in the championship.
