Brookesy took the first
victory for the day and will be eager for more of the same. Giles
now has the championship wrapped up so can afford to let it all hang out. Stauffer took the early lead with Gilesy in 2nd before being overhauled by Brookes, Bugden 4th, Maxwell 5th, all five painting black lines on their way on to the main straight to start lap 2 in the same order. Brookes went under Stauffer in to turn 4 after pulling a big mono over the hump. Gilesy ran a little deep in to turn 9 and Bugden nearly relegated him to 4th but Gilesy came right back and took 2nd place from Stauffer as they crossed the line to start lap 3. Gilesy on it, laying huge darkies out of turn 8 to get on to terms with Brookes, he followed him on to the main straight before powering past him, Brookesy not intimidated though and tries to get Giles around the outside in turn 1, a very ballsy move, how good is this kid. Brookes gets under Giles at turn 4 for the lead as they approached half race distance. But Giles again powered past on the straight, the extra cubes of the GSX-R making mince meat of the Fireblade in a straight line. But again Brookes pulled a seemingly impossible move to go around the outside of Giles in turn 2. Jamie Stauffer also trying hard with the R1 at ridiculously sideways angles at times. Brookes built enough of a gap, 3-tenths over Giles on lap 5 that he could actually hold on to the lead down the straight that time. Josh got really sideways out of turn 8 on lap 6 which saw him lose a little bit of that lead, this enabled Gilesy to creep up on to his rear tyre again and slipstream him on to the main straight but the riders were greeted with a red flag when they arrived on the main straight. An accident with a rider in a dangerous position was the cause but he looked to have no serious injuries, just the position of him and his bike that was the safety concern. This laid the ground for a re-start using the race order and gaps from the end of lap 5. This had Brookes leading by 0.35 over Giles with a similar gap back to Stauffer in 3rd. Robert Bugden also not too far behind. Bugden got the best jump off the line on the re-start and led the field in to turn 1 with Josh Brookes and Shawn Giles right behind. Brookes did his favourite passing move, underneath in to turn 4 to take the lead from Bugden. Bugden stayed on Brookes' case in 2nd place for the whole of the lap and actually tried to get Josh for the lead in to turn 1 after showing a speed advantage down the straight. Bugden tried it again on the next lap and nearly touched Brookes on the entry to turn 1. Giles was still 3rd on the track and Stauffer 4th. Giles slotted under Bugden in turn 9 with a couple of laps remaining and started to hunt Brookes. Stauffer took 3rd off Bugden on the last lap. Giles crossed the line just ahead of Brookes after getting a better run on to the straight but on combined time it was Brookes who was credited with the win.
